In 2008 the owner of La Sombra built the largest Butterfly Garden in Nicaragua (500 m2) with a capacity of 1000 to 1200 butterflies from 60 to 75 butterfly species that have been found in the Wildlife Reserve La Sombra and reproduce in the laboratory (25 m2).
This Butterfly Garden is an example of sustainable use of natural resources without damaging the area and it represents a viable alternative for the protection of endangered species and their habitat, in the hatchery production of Butterflies we take control of the environmental conditions, nutrition balance, and quality control of larval host plants and nectar-producing plants to feed the adult butterflies.
By visiting the Butterfly Garden you will have a scientific explanation of the whole process of metamorphosis of these little insects, which consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult butterflies (you will be able to appreciate step by step this wonderful process ). After that we’ll take you to walk into a internal path length of 100 meters in the butterfly garden, crossing a small water spring, noting the diversity of species of beautiful butterflies that gives us the forest, in a nice botanical garden, where you can take the time to observe, know and meditate for all the time you want.
